Highly efficient WiFi air alternating mattresses minimise carer/patient contact by ensuring best practice in remote controlled and monitored pressure care. Patients assessed at High Risk of pressure ulcers are often placed on a turning regimen. This can mean patients in a clinical setting need to be turned every two hours during the day and two hours at night. Each time, patients have to be physically manipulated into a turn to offload high-risk pressure areas.
This risks you developing back issues from lifting and also takes up a considerable amount of time per shift. This also means excessive patient contact which can impact patient comfort and also increase the risk of skin tears, shearing, pain, and a detrimental quality of life.
Switching to TheraCloud WiFi alternating mattress systems can significantly reduce the need for regular turning and excessive contact in two ways.
Firstly, by enabling a clinical specialist total remote control and monitoring of each active therapy surface – optimised for each patient.
Secondly, by the use of electronic valves for instant pressure release away from the patient every 10 minutes. 25% more effective than rotor release pumps commonly in use.
Not only does a TheraCloud WiFi Therapy surface enable best practice in pressure care, the mattress can be instructed to “weigh” the resident each day at a pre-programmed time so that the system will automatically ensure the best setting without any human intervention.
Remote WiFi Technology for Patient Risk Assessment
Highly accurate pressure sensors now allow therapists to monitor patient movement on the bed.
This real time data can be used to assist in assessing the risk of pressure ulcers.
Here’s how it works.
A TheraCloud air alternating therapy mattress can sense and record even the smallest patient movement – not only as it happens but also as an historical record of patient movement – showing any baseline changes.
Aged Care facilities in NSW and Victoria have now deployed this technology throughout their sites. Clinicians at these facilities can now select a mattress on their office PCs, Laptops or mobile devices and instantly view data on how each patient is receiving support therapy and how they are responding.
This technology is now available for NDIS clients allowing therapists to remotely monitor and control their client’s therapy settings enabling best practice in clinical care.
A therapist for example can determine the following by using a TheraCloud WiFi Mattress:
- When carers are transferring a high risk client on or off the bed
- If any micro-movements are occurring which can point to the level of risk
- Are any carers adjusting the pressure settings through the night or during transfers
- Whether a client is getting in or out of bed by themselves

He identified a gap in the market for a mattress design (for beds, seating and all therapy surfaces) to prevent and treat pressure areas more effectively.
